Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), belonging to family Fabaceae, is a highly desired forage legume in the United States and in the countries around the world. According to USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the estimated value of alfalfa hay and haylage produced in the United States counts to $10.8 billion per year, with an area of 11.7 million acres under production and an average yield of 3.61 tons per acre in 2019.
Bacterial blight is a disease caused by a gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae. In the recent years, the incidence of bacterial blight in increasing and the agriculture industry has been heavily affected due to its rapid spread, resulting in massive losses, estimated over millions of dollars.
Here we present alfaNET, a database implemented to provide a host-pathogen interactome tool that could be useful to the community that is pursuing development of molecular-based strategies to mitigate bacterial blight impact.
